The fifth phase of the project finishes a series of works for the improvement in the infrastructure of the Port of Santos access

Última fase das obras

Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) starts, on Monday (11), the fifth and final phase of works in the road, completing the project activities to improve the access roads to the right bank of the Port of Santos terminals at Avenida Engenheiro Augusto Barata, better known as “Retão da Alemoa”. This final phase, scheduled for ending in the last week of September, will complete the restructuring of stretch in both directions of the Avenue, leveling the tracks with the new dimension (height) determined by the Port Authority, replacing the cobbled pavement with asphalt, and other improvements.

With a total of investment, by BTP, around R$ 8.8 million, the renovation of approximately 1 km long of the Avenue is part of a broader plan of infrastructure at the Port of Santos, led by the Port Authority (CODESP), aiming to improve local road access.

“With the works in this stretch of the Avenue completed, there will be an improvement in the flow of vehicles traveling on site, increasing the fluidity and conditions of traffic safety, since there will be the introduction of asphalt pavement ensuring a better leveling of the floor, new lighting, site drainage system, in addition to vertical and horizontal traffic lights slopes”, says Cristhiane Vojevodovas, infrastructure manager of BTP.

To facilitate movement in the region during this phase of works, BTP signaled the area, according to indications from studies conducted in conjunction with CODESP and Traffic Engineering Company of Santos (CET).

Learn more about the Project

The improvement, initiated in September 2013, was divided into five phases for execution, without interference in local traffic, and consists in the reconstruction of approximately one kilometer across the front of the terminals tracks, including the four lanes to enter the Port of Santos. An additional lane will be added to the existing two-lane exit towards Downtown to Via Anchieta, resulting in three tracks. In total, it will be seven inbound and outbound lanes.

Besides the increase of a lane towards Downtown -Via Anchieta, other improvements will be felt by drivers with the completion of the reform. Will be located an adequate drainage system to drain water from the slopes, the cobbled pavement will be replaced by asphalt throughout the length of the stretch – which also reduces the noise level at the site, and there will be leveling the slopes of the avenue, with deployment actuated traffic light (automatically adaptive to traffic identified in each direction) for conversion, and spot lighting in accordance with national standards.

The implementation of the works does not impact the existing service level on the avenue, and it is in accordance with studies of capacity developed. During all phases of the project, the Harbour Guard has been responsible for traffic management in place.
