As part of its "Driver Rated 10/10" initiative, the company recognized drivers who made the most visits to the container terminal over the past year without committing any internal traffic violations.

Santos, May 30, 2025 – As part of its ongoing commitment to the safety of people and cargo, Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) recognized truck drivers who made the highest number of visits to the container terminal over the past year without committing any company internal traffic violations.

Created by BTP in 2022 and held annually since, the “Driver Rated 10/10” recognition aims to raise awareness among truck drivers about the importance of traffic safety, both within and outside the container terminal. In 2025, for the first time, the initiative awarded two professionals in the same edition. The winners of the 2025 “Driver Rated 10/10” award were Sérgio Costa Bento, an independent driver, and Márcio José Cardoso dos Santos, a driver at Serra Transportes Rodoviários.

BTP is one of the largest container terminals in the Latin America, with the capacity to handle around 3,900 trucks per day, in accordance with regulations set by the Santos Port Authority (APS).

To be eligible for the “Driver Rated 10/10” award, professionals must fully comply with the guidelines outlined in the BTP’s Truck Driver Handbook, strictly follow the container terminal’s safety procedures—such as the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)—and commit no internal traffic violations, including obeying signage, traffic flows, and speed limits.

According to BTP’s Safety Manager, Fábio Carvalho, the initiative recognizes professionals who contribute directly to accident prevention through safe driving. “Our goal is to promote a safe environment for everyone at the terminal—ensuring operational integrity and efficiency, excellence in customer service, and, above all, people’s safety,” he emphasized.

As recognition for their commitment to traffic safety, both Sérgio and Márcio received a R$5,000 voucher from BTP.

Recognition and Joy for Awarded Drivers - A truck driver since 2011, Sérgio Costa Bento shared his surprise upon learning he had completed the year without a single incident. “We’re professionals, and we have to drive safely—for ourselves and for others,” he stated. Although he had previously received the “Driver Rated 10/10” award, Sérgio said he remains committed to improving his conduct behind the wheel. “I have to give my best. If I did my best this time, I have to try and do even better next time,” he added.

For Márcio José Cardoso dos Santos, the news came as a surprise. “I couldn’t believe it when I was told I’d won,” said the driver, who has been in the profession for 15 years. This was his first time receiving the award. “I felt very happy and honored. It’s not every day you receive an award like this. Now I’ll drive with even more care, hoping to win again!”

The drivers were honored during a ceremony held in May at BTP’s, located in the Alemoa district. The “Driver Rated 10/10” initiative was also part of a broader calendar of activities developed by BTP in alignment with the global Yellow May Movement, which promotes awareness of traffic safety.
