BTP receives award at COP30 for its commitment to sustainability

Certification awarded by the Brazilian Ministry of Ports recognised companies in the port sector committed to the ESG agenda.

Santos, November 13, 2025 – Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP), one of the largest container terminals in Latin America and a benchmark in port operations at the Port of Santos, was honored, yesterday (November 12), with the Sustainability Seal awarded by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) during COP30, the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference, held in Belém (PA). The company was certified in the diamond category, the highest level of the award granted for the first time by MPor. With the Sustainability Seal in the diamond category, BTP, alongside other companies in the sector, forms the first group recognised for its ESG engagement.

BTP's CEO, Cláudio Oliveira, explains that ESG is at the essence of the company and will remain a commitment for decades to come. ”Our aim is to promote a port operation of excellence that is also a benchmark in sustainability, which is why we have an innovative energy transition plan on going. We will become a carbon-zero container terminal from 2030, which will contribute even more to strengthening the national port infrastructure and the socio-economic development of the Baixada Santista region”.

One of the major milestones in BTP's energy transition is the acquisition of electrified port operating equipment as part of a R$ 2 billion investment package that is currently being implemented. Among the planned acquisitions are new and modern e-RTGs (Rubber Tyre Gantry), moving from 30 diesel-powered RTGs to a total fleet of 57 electric machines.

In addition to the vision of a sustainable future, BTP's CAO, Joel Contente, recalls the company's solid track record of ESG initiatives. "For more than five decades, the area where BTP is located was considered one of the largest environmental liabilities in the state of São Paulo and the largest in the country's port area. R$ 257 million was invested in transforming this space from an environmental impact scenario to a container terminal that is a model of sustainable development, job creation and port operation."

For Elisabete Ramos, BTP's Sustainability Manager and responsible for coordinating the work focused on the Sustainability Seal, the award represents a collective achievement. “This result is the fruit of continuous effort and reflects the commitment of the BTP team, which works daily to ensure the sustainability of our operations”.

About the Sustainability Pact – The Sustainability Pact is an unprecedented initiative by the MPor and aims to encourage social and environmental responsibility and governance practices in the port, airport and waterway sectors, in line with the UN's 2030 Agenda and Brazil's commitments to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

To be eligible for certification, BTP met a series of requirements set by the Ministry of Ports, including: adhering to the Sustainability Pact, complying with at least ten actions set out in the three ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) areas, in addition to two specific goals, being up to date with labour obligations, having published salary and remuneration transparency reports in accordance with Law No. 14,611/2023 (Law on Equal Pay between Women and Men), adhering to the Brazilian GHG Protocol Programme and having its corporate greenhouse gas emissions inventories disclosed in the Programme's Public Emissions Registry, among others.

In addition to the MPor Sustainability Pact, BTP is also a signatory to the Santos 2030 SDG Movement (Santos City Hall), the Port of Santos ESG Manifesto (Santos Port Authority) and is part of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Programme.
