BTP Com Elas trains 30 women for work at the port sector
The initiative, promoted by BTP, has supported the training of over 100 women in just two years.
Santos, July 7, 2025 - A group of 30 women received their certificates from BTP Com Elas, a free course offered by Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP) that aims to contribute to the inclusion of women in the port labor market. The graduation ceremony was held at the container terminal itself, located on the right bank of the Port of Santos.
To receive the course certificate, the group of graduates, made up of women from the Baixada Santista region aged between 18 and 55, took part in two months of classes at BTP itself, which is considered to be one of the largest container terminals in Latin America. Around 700 women applied for the course this year alone.
BTP's Human Resources Manager, Claudio Luna Scalise, explains that with the conclusion of this class, BTP has reached the milestone of more than 100 women trained for the port sector in two years. "BTP Com Elas is part of the company's diversity, equity and inclusion program and is a pioneering social initiative that genuinely contributes to the inclusion of women in the Port of Santos through learning and strengthening the port-city relationship. Respect for uniqueness is part of BTP's organizational culture, and valuing each person, with their individuality and background, is what makes any environment more humane and inclusive," she says.
100% taught by women - One of the distinguishing features of BTP Com Elas is the opportunity to learn from women who already work in the port sector. All of the initiative's classes are taught 100% voluntarily by women who are employees of the container terminal.
During the classes, the students learned, through theoretical activities, group dynamics and conversation circles, about topics such as port operations, protagonism, financial management, technology and innovation, psychological safety, sustainability, security, communication, project management, self-knowledge, among others.
For Tamires da Rosa Damasio, one of the professionals who conquer the BTP Com Elas certificate, the experience exceeded her expectations. "It was better than I expected. It's a huge learning experience, training and qualifying incredible women. It encourages us to believe that it is possible for women to have opportunities in the job market," she says.
For Nanci Ayres, speaker of the graduating class, BTP Com Elas is living proof of the transformation towards the inclusion of women in ports. "Being a woman in the port is no longer an exception, it's a new reality. BTP Com Elas doesn't end with our graduation, it continues with every step we take, more confident, more prepared and more united," she concludes.
The BTP Com Elas graduation ceremony, held on June 30, was attended by BTP directors, graduates and their families, volunteer teachers, professionals working at the container terminal and guests from the sector.
